Smell the Smoke Spotify Campaign

Smell The Smoke is an alternative rock song that came out in the Summer of 2021. While it was not particularly radio friendly it did garner some good results and got Spotify algorithmic playlists boost. It appeared on a bunch of Release Radars and Discover Weekly which is really what you want, Spotify doing free promotion for you! But there are certain things you have to do first such as getting the song’s popularity score to around 20.

Popularity score is calculated by a bunch of different factors such as skip ratio, save rate, how much of the song was listened to, release date of the track etc. While we cannot see these statistics in great detail we can see the popularity score. As you can see from the graph the first initial push for the song was crucial, it insured lots of saves and playlist ads which boosted it’s popularity score and put the song in to new listener’s ears.

The wonderful thing about this method is the data that Facebook and Spotify collects and optimizes over time. We can take all the people that clicked on your ads and create a lookalike audience which will lower the costs down for your next campaign from the start. We can take the people that clicked and show them an ad for your next release, or your merch, or your tour dates etc. This is only the beginning!
